Blog tour: LIFE, A.D.
Today I'd like to welcome fellow Month9Books author Michelle E. Reed to my blog, as part of her blog tour run by Chapter by Chapter.
ABOUT LIFE, A.D.:
Title: Life, A.D.
Author: Michelle E. Reed
Genre: Young Adult/Speculative Fiction
Publisher: Month9Books
ISBN: 9780988340916
Publication Date: December 10, 2013
Formats: eBook and print
In Life, A.D. you have two choices: join the program or face the consequences.
Seventeen-year-old Dez Donnelly crashes headlong into fate on the side of a rural highway, her life ending in a violent collision of steel and screaming brakes. The train that delivers her newly departed soul to the crossroads of the afterlife won’t be carrying her to the sweet hereafter until she accepts her abrupt end and learns to let go of the life she’ll never finish.
Her new reality is conduct manuals, propaganda, and unrelenting staff, all part of a system to ease her transition from life to death, while helping her earn her way out of limbo. Atman City, beautiful and enticing, is an ever-present temptation that is strictly off limits to underage souls. The promise of adventure proves too strong, and beneath the city’s sheen of ethereal majesty, Dez discovers a world teeming with danger.
Welcome to Life, A.D. where being dead doesn’t mean you’re safe, and the only thing harder than getting out of limbo is getting through it.

Blog tour guest: DEAD JED
Today I'd like to welcome fellow Month9Books author Scott Craven to my blog.
Here's the lowdown on Scott's Middle Grade novel DEAD JED.
ABOUT DEAD JED:
Title: DEAD JED: ADVENTURES OF A JUNIOR HIGH ZOMBIE
Publication date: December 1, 2013
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.
ISBN-13: 978-0-9883409-0-9
ISBN eBook: 978-0-939765-56-7
Author: Scott Craven
Dead Jed is Shaun of the Dead meets Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Jed's not your typical junior high geek. He is, to use the politically-correct term, cardiovascularly-challenged. And while his parents have attempted to shield him from the implications of being 'different' for as long as they could (Jed was 8 and at a friend's sister's birthday party when he blew his lips off onto the cake in front of everyone, finally prompting the “Big Talk” from his parents and an emergency SuperGlue repair by his dad), 7th grade at Pine Hollow Middle School as a target of Robbie the supreme school bully and his pack of moronic toadies is rapidly becoming unbearable.
From being stuffed in a filled trash can as “dead meat” and into a trophy case as the bully's “prize,” to literally having his hand pulled off in the boys' room (Jed's always losing body parts. Luckily, a good stapler and some duct tape and he's back in the action) and a cigarette put in it and try to frame him for the recent reports of smoking in the school, Jed's had enough and is ready to plan his revenge. Besides, it's awesome what you can do when you're already dead!
ABOUT SCOTT CRAVEN:
Proud graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, have one son who will turn 18 in March 2013, now a features writer for The Arizona Republic.

Swept away by romance
The official release day for my New Adult debut, BEFORE, is Dec 2nd.
So far, early reviews have been fabulous, including this one at SWEPT AWAY BY ROMANCE today.
I'm always interested to hear when a reader really connects with my work to the point she cries.
I'm betting it's the same spot in the book I cried. First while writing, then later editing.
Can't wait to hear what more readers think about this book!

The emerging New Adult market
There's a great article by my favourite author Barbara O'Neal over at WRITER UNBOXED today, on the emerging new adult market.
I'm so excited that Barbara is writing NA (she's the only author I pre-order books for 6 months in advance!) and I have her NA, RANDOM, lined up to read next on my kindle. (She's writing NA under a pen name, Lark O'Neal.)

Alternative medicine
Today, I had acupuncture for the first time in 20 years.
Back then, it was amazing.
But I'd forgotten the whole 'feeling like a pincushion while I lie still for 40 minutes' thing.
While I'm traditionally scientifically trained (with my physio background) I'm always open to trying new methods as long as it doesn't harm.
What about you?
What alternative medicine/methods have you tried and if so, how did you find the results?

Guest author: Ros Baxter + free short story
A few months back I had the lovely Ros Baxter visit my blog with her new release and now she's back, with a free short story for you!
WHITE CHRISTMAS (Escape Publishing, Harlequin Australia) releases Dec 1st but you can pre-order now, FREE!
Here's what Ros has to say:
WHITE CHRISTMAS (Escape Publishing, Harlequin Australia) releases Dec 1st but you can pre-order now, FREE!
Here's what Ros has to say:
It's a whole lotta sexy, spine-tinglingly scary, and is set in a post-Apocalypse sci-fi world.
What if your only chance at survival was to seduce the man who broke your heart?
Seventeen years after the Apocalypse, Admiral-class Explorer Tabysha is caught up in a firefight and shot down over Tyver, where ice vampires hunt human warmth. Seeking shelter in an ice cave, she is instructed to stay put and await rescue. But after another ship crash-lands, and the Hunter Gatherers stalk its wounded pilot, Tabi breaks protocol.
When it turns out the survivor is the man who stole her heart then skipped out on her ten years before, it seems to Tabi that no good deed goes unpunished, and things can’t get any worse. But she’s so wrong.
As the Hunters pick up the escalating heat signature of the former lovers, Tabi has to tell Asha that there is only one way to repel the creatures stalking them.
And it involves picking up where they left off ten years before.

More giveaways!
BEFORE, my debut NA novel releasing December 2nd, is getting some great reviews and now has 121 adds on Goodreads.
If that figure hits 250 this week I'm giving away 3 copies of the sequel, BRASH.
So please add it HERE and tell all your friends!
If it hits 500 before release day, there's going to be a mega surprise giveaway!
And that's not including the current opal giveaway.
I've also been receiving emails wondering why I'm not shouting this book from the rooftops when it's already available for purchase.
Long story that has to do with being in Australia and the length of time it takes to go live at all retailers (hence the Dec 2nd official release date) and not wanting to take the gloss of my current YA release SCION OF THE SUN, but yes, you can buy BEFORE now.

Release day SCION OF THE SUN
Release day for SCION OF THE SUN.
I'm in love with this book and I hope readers will be too.
A huge amount of world-building went into this YA fantasy and I can't wait to hear what readers think.
The first 2 reviews are in:
"an exciting novel, full of adventure and magic. All in all this was a well done book- I recommend it to fans of Vampire Academy and fans of contemporary fantasy books!" (THE BEST BOOKS EVER)
"It's a unique novel in YA literature, and I hope it won't be under-appreciated! An excellent start to a new mythology-based series, this is! Even if you're not a fan of druid mythology, or you don't know much about it, fear not! Marsh did her research (really well) for this book. And don't worry about the romance (I hinted at a love triangle). Just trust me! Or read the book. Or both." (THE EATER OF BOOKS)
SCION OF THE SUN is available in print and ebook:
If you take the time to read, please leave a review.
Every review counts!
Thanks.

Cover reveal: BEFORE (New Adult novel.)
I'm absolutely thrilled to reveal the cover for my first New Adult novel, BEFORE.
For fans of BRASH, you'll know Jack and Jess met a decade earlier, while Jess was on a trip to the outback.
Some characters stay with me and these two did. I loved them. So when they demanded their early story be told, I had to listen.
I wrote this story in two weeks last month. It's just back from the editor and is being formatted next week, then it's going live for the big launch on December 2nd, available from all etailers.
In the meantime, please add it to your GOODREADS shelf and tell all your friends!
Here's the blurb:
Good girls finish last? Screw that.
Being a small town girl isn’t so bad. Unless Mom’s the town joke and I’ve spent my entire life shying away from her flamboyance. College in Las Vegas should be so much cooler. But it’s not. Bad things happen there. Real bad.
So when my big brother Reid offers me an all-expenses paid vacation to Australia for a month, I am so there. Discounting the deadly snakes on the outback cattle station, I should be safe. Until I meet Jack.
Jack defines bad boy and then some. And the guy can cook. He’s big, buffed, bronzed, and hotter than any guy I’ve ever met. And his sexy Aussie accent makes me melt.
But he’s my brother’s new bestie and he lives on the other side of the world. There’s no future for us.
Is there?

About
the Very Superstitious Authors:
Shannon Delany
Shannon Delany's
newest novel, WEATHER WITCH (St. Martin's Press) is already available for
pre-order (which both stuns and delights Delany)!
Shannon Delany has written stories since she was a child. She began writing in earnest when her grandmother fell unexpectedly ill during a family vacation. In 2008 her greatly abbreviated version of 13 to Life (written in just five weeks) won the grand prize in the first-ever cell phone novel contest in the western world through Textnovel.com .
Shannon was thrilled when St. Martin’s Press offered her a contract for a series about her 13 to Life characters. She expanded on the cell phone novel version, adding the subplots and characters she didn’t have time to during the contest. As paranormal as werewolves seem, the grief Shannon used to build Jess’s character is something she personally experienced with the loss of her own mother. Focusing on Jess and Pietr’s story of loss, love and dramatic and dangerous changes, Shannon came to better grips with her own struggle. The resulting novel has earned her blurbs from authors she respects most.
The first novel in Shannon’s YA paranormal series, 13 to Life, debuted June 22, 2010, and was followed by Secrets and Shadows, Bargains and Betrayals, Destiny and Deception, and the Rivals and Retribution (August 2012).
Shannon has also debuted with interactive science fiction in her short story ("To Hel and Back") for Spirited: 13 to Haunting Tales (Leap Books) and will make her high fantasy debut with Month 9 Books' charity anthology titled Two and Twenty Dark Tales (October 2012, "Pieces of Eight" with musician Max Scialdone).
Shannon's new series (a steampunk trilogy titled WEATHER WITCH, also with St. Martin's Press) will launch June 25, 2013.
Previously a teacher and now a farmer raising heritage livestock, Shannon lives and writes in Upstate New York and enjoys traveling to talk to people about most anything.

Pab Sungenis
Born in the swamps of Southern New Jersey,
Pab Sungenis developed a childhood fascination with cartooning and drew a daily
strip for his own amusement for two years before realizing he couldn’t draw. He
wound up in broadcasting, worked for numerous stations including WSBU, WOND,
WMGM, WSKR, WBNJ, WWBZ, and WKTU. He describes his drawing ability as like that
of “a mentally challenged rhinoceros on a Ny-Quil bender”, but thanks to the
wonders of photo-manipulation and computer image editing, on February 8, 2006
he found himself creating The New Adventures of Queen Victoria, which has
appeared ever since, first on Comicssherpa.com., and now in online syndication
with gocomics.com. Pab Sungenis is available for quotes, signings, video or
podcast appearances, and all opportunities relative to SIDEKICK: THE MISADVENTURES
OF THE NEW SCARLET KNIGHT.
Stephanie Kuehnert
STEPHANIE KUEHNERT got her start writing bad
poetry about unrequited love and razor blades in eighth grade. In high school,
she discovered punk rock and produced several D.I.Y. feminist 'zines. After
short stints in Ohio and Wisconsin, Stephanie ultimately returned home and received
her MFA in creative writing from Columbia College Chicago. She currently
resides in Forest Park, IL.
Jennifer Knight
Hi. I’m Jen. I am twenty-two years old and live in Miami, Florida
with my family. I’m a lifelong lover of books, romance and anything even
vaguely supernatural. Except zombies. Zombies scare me.
I started writing in college after trying and failing to find a major. It was all I really knew how to do and since school was going nowhere, I threw myself into it. I wrote my first book in a matter of months and watched it go up in flames.
Smoldering, but still determined to make this writing thing work, I moved on to something completely different. Werewolves! Love them. Who doesn’t? I wrote the first draft of Blood on the Moon in about two months, during which I locked myself in my room and thought about teeth and moons and kissing.
I must have done something right, because Running Press bought my book and now you’re here reading this. I guess that means you liked the book. Yay! If I had a cookie, I’d totally give it to you. You deserve it.
Anyway, now that Blood on the Moon is done, I’m writing the sequel. And also some other stuff that hopefully you’ll see one day.
