Launching a new series

Mills and Boon is launching a new series in January 2011, RIVA.

RIVA will consist of the current Modern Heat series and some of the fun, flirty authors from the Romance series (which basically means all my books will now be RIVA books.)

My current Harlequin Romance release, DESERTED ISLAND, DREAMY EX! out in the USA, will be part of the Riva launch in the UK alongside Kelly Hunter, Jessica Hart and Kimberly Lang.

So hot off the press, here are the new covers.

Very, VERY different.

Opinions?

  1. I really, really like it ! I have never been a big fan of the 'original' covers, sometimes they veered toward the tacky.. and the heroines rarely inspired me. Okay, maybe we could do with a bit more 'maleness' on the cover - and less bikini (we do like a bit of hot male bod to look at). But I think this is fresh and vibrant and modern. It's a big thumbs up from me... oh, and I like the new direction in titles to.

I'm hoping Riva takes off, because I would love to see this new marketing direction get taken up in Aust. as well.

  2. Thanks for sharing an honest opinion, Jo.

Loads of opinions would be fab to feed back to TPTB. :)

  3. Wow it is very different isn't it? But I do like it. It's very eye catching with it's angles and very different to the other covers that are out there at the moment.

    Really striking, isn't it?

  6. Eye catching indeed. It'll be months before I see my first Riva cover, but can't wait!

  7. Ooh, me likes! It's very contemporary. On the negative side, I don't get a sense of romance from the cover - like Jo mentioned, having a male also on the cover would be good. But I still love it :)

  8. Very smart and contemporary. I like it. Although I agree with others, a bit of man on the cover would be the icing on the cake. :)

  9. Well having just done author edits on a desert island book I'd be stoked to get the left half of the image on mine (go nature) but--yeah--a good torso in swimmers was a missed opportunity, I think. Still...bright, crisp, contemp and should stand out onshelf as long as they're not too similar.

I look fwd to reading it, too, Nic.

  10. Oooh, Nicola I like this (a lot). It's young, fresh and very different.

I love M&B but some of the covers and titles make me cringe and put me off buying them in my local WHS. If the rest of the new Riva line are as lovely as this cover I wouldn't feel at all embarrassed being seen with one.

Going to be really controversial now and say I'd rather not see too much of a hot, sexy half-naked man on the cover of a Modern Heat. Yes, I know I sound mad :) I prefer to read about him inside the book and think the covers look more sophisticated if they just feature the heroine.

Congrats on your new book and such a gorgeous new cover.

  11. Must admit, I would've liked a bare-chested male too, Angie ;)

But not having a 'romance' feel is the point, I think, so readers feel happy reading this anywhere and avoiding the 'stigma' of reading romance novels.

  13. Thanks Nikki.

Maybe yours will have the hot guy in trunks on it? :)

  14. You've pretty much summed up why many people don't read M&B books 'in the open' Jude so hopefully these covers will bring in loads more readers :)
