Weekend Book Club: The Brass Verdict

I was first introduced to Michael Connelly through his cop character Harry Bosch and was hooked! THE BRASS VERDICT is a legal thriller, featuring lawyer Mickey Haller. I bought it a while ago and have had it on my TBR pile, so when I picked it up this week I didn't realise it was book 2 of the Mickey Haller series, the first being THE LINCOLN LAWYER, currently a movie starring Matthew McConaughey. (I don't get to the movies much these days. Only movie I've seen in the last few years is Toy Story 3 but I'm definitely making time for The Lincoln Lawyer, for many reasons!) As a character, Mickey Haller is intelligent, quick-witted and human, with enough vulnerabilities to stop him from straying into cocky territory. This is a real skill by the author, to keep us from disliking him. I adore thrillers and this one had great twists at the end. And having Harry Bosch as a secondary character throughout made things interesting too. Anyone seen The Lincoln Lawyer? Thoughts? Do you recommend it? Or should I wait for DVD? What are you reading this week?

  1. My dad loves Michael Connelly. I need to give him a shot. Mysteries and thrillers were my first reading love before romance. Now a lot of them are too gruesome for me. Grew up on Ken Follett, Sydney Sheldon, and Ed McBain.
I just finished Sophie Page's "To Marry a Prince" and am feeling a bit bereft. Sophie Weston/Page's voice is so unique and I miss her Harlequin Romances.
However, I have a ton of Harlequin Romances/RIVAs on my Kindle and I can't wait to dive in.

  2. Ah well, I haven't read any of these books or have seen the movie... but I usually end up waiting for the DVD for any movie I want to see, so I'm no help there. LOL But I can say what I'm trying to read in between homework - Much Ado About Marriage by Karen Hawkins. :) Tackled all the Harlequin Romances I had at present, so now going to some historical that have been sitting on my TBR pile for a while! :)

  5. Aww, shucks... LOL Well, I'm caught up at present on the Romances -- I still have my Presents, Blazes, Silhouette Special Editions, the Romantic Suspenses to go... plus I'm sure soon I'll be adding more Romances when I catch the new ones... and those, of course are just the Harlequins. Have many, many more single titles around here too! LOL Thankfully, I'm not taking a summer class this year, so way more time to catch up on all these! :)
