Close-knit community

The writing community is close-knit.
Thanks to the Internet, a solitary writer can make friends from all over the world, friends you chat to daily, more often than friends you've had a lifetime.

Recently, the lovely Jessica Hart visited Melbourne on her way to the RWAus conference.
I 'know' Jessica, a fellow Harlequin Romance author, via the Net so when I heard she was coming, I couldn't wait to meet her.

We had a lovely brunch at Southbank: sadly my boys only lasted 90 minutes otherwise we could've happily chatted books all day.

It was really lovely to chat to a RITA winner and author of 55 books, and hear her thoughts on writing and books. Very inspiring.

(An interesting aside: I'm carrying an extra 14 kg at the moment, mainly due to lack of exercise: bone tumour in left foot last year, lymphodema in right leg this year. I weigh the same now as I did after giving birth to my last child a few years ago. I don't like it. And it's not until I see a photo of myself, like this one, that it hits home.
With my leg finally stabilising, I now vow to do something about this situation.
Watch this space because in 4 months, I want to post a much skinnier picture!)

Glad you had such a lovely lunch with Jessica and for what it's worth, I think you look great - very healthy and happy.

It sounds like you had a wonderful lunch with Jessica.

I hope you're feeling better and look forward to seeing your 'new you' pics (although I agree with Joni - you look really healthy and happy in this pic!).

Take care of yourself,

:-)Mon

Thanks Joni and Mon.

I'm just stunned when I see a pic of myself (which isn't often) at how big I am now. It's a real shock!

Hi Nic,
You look fabulous as always. And you've had a tough year (don't we all know about that!), so don't be hard on yourself.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Hugs
Elvina

Ooo I love Jessica's books too!

You look fabulous Nic :). Be gentle with yourself. Conquering illness is an achievement that most people don't understand. There will be plenty of time to exercise once your body has healed :).

You look lovely Nic. Don't beat yourself up - look at all your wonderful achievements and all you have been through in the past year medically wise. Just take each day as it comes - if you want to eat salad one day and chocolate the next, do so. You are great :-)

Nic - I heard Jessica at the conf and she was AWESOME. But I have to say you look AWESOME too. Definitely not an image to beat yourself up about :)

Thanks Lacey, Tracey and Rachael.

I think the exercise is back on hold as shingles have hit with a vengeance...again!

Feel like I'm making another excuse but I guess I just have to bide my time...frustrating!

Well, here's another commentor that is going to disagree with you, ;) but will say it this way -- only you know how your body feels and what is normal weight and extra and all that, but on this end, you still look like a healthy individual (that is, by appearance, not counting the colds and flus and shingles and all that stuff). So there. :)

But wow, 55 books. . . I just still can't imagine one! LOL :)
