Foiled

Today's post should've been named men being contrary rather than yesterday.
Or should be 'boys being contrary' more to the point.

Last night was a mums' night out from school, our first dinner for the year.
I don't get out much. Can't think of the last time I went out without the kids. So was looking forward to it.
Felt a bit bad leaving toddler, who has my awful cold but he was happy enough. Prep kid had a mild rash on his cheek but was otherwise okay.

So what happens?
I'd barely set foot in the restaurant when the phone rings. Prep kid's rash has spread to his back and chest and he can't stop itching.
I issued instructions to head off to chemist for an antihistamine (obviously an allergic reaction to something, we haven't figured what yet) and to keep me posted.
But I couldn't do it, sit there in the restaurant and chatter while worried about kidlet.
So I left, after ten minutes.

I always put my kids first and never begrudge being with them 24/7.
But as the wonderful Barbara Samuel told me during a chat at last year's RWAus conference, I need to refill my well, take some me-time. I don't do it often enough.
I'm aiming to change all that.

Oh no, poor you!

Hope little one much better now.

I have one with a nasty rash but that was an allergic reaction to her putting glue all over herself! I am a terrible foster mummy :-)

Hope your little one is feeling better soon.

You do need to refill the well. (Am aware this is a case of pots and kettles, but!!!) Even if it's only for a couple of hours, you need time to kick back and let your brain relax/reach out to new ideas.

Oh, you poor thing!

We need our own time to recharge our batteries, that's for sure. I know when the kids were little I didn't make the time, but now they're getting older I have to, or I'll go insane. Mind you, haven't been out with the girls for a while. Think I need to make a few phone calls...

Wow pretty incredible reaction. Hopefully it's one of those things that disappears as he gets older poor bub! I love that kids can be happy enough even when they have an awful cold! It's one of the great wonders of the universe :)

Aww, hope he gets better soon. . . hate itching, in winter, I'm too dry, so I itch. In summer I'm too oily, so I itch. LOL Right now in Spring I'm okay. Anyway, enough of my problems -- yep, everyone needs time for themselves, but the only way it will happen is if you're not worry about things. And yep, I better you were worrying a bit. Once things calm a bit more, bet you can get some of that me time in. Hopefully. :)
