WEEKEND BOOK CLUB: The Wedding Season

I bought THE WEDDING SEASON at my local shops when the cover caught my eye.
It's stunning.

And considering the fun I had writing BUSTED IN BOLLYWOOD and the incredible feedback I received from readers, I'm always intrigued to read any books featuring a cast of multicultural Asian characters.

Reading a book with no expectations, and knowing nothing of the story or author, is often great because there are no preconceptions.
And that's what happened with THE WEDDING SEASON.
I really loved this book.
It's funny and poignant and delectable.

Here's the blurb:

Meet Shani - she's thirty-two, single and has a job to die for. And she likes her life just the way it is, thank you! So why do her family and friends insist on trying to convince her that the only way to the perfect life is meeting the perfect man?
When Shani's horoscope miraculously reveals that now is the best time of her life for marriage, her mother decides to take control. As the Sri Lankan wedding season opens she turns a deaf ear to Shani's protests and arranges a parade of 101 potential grooms, in the hope that her shamefully unmarried daughter will salvage the family honour by finally finding Mr Right. But true life, like true love, can get very complicated. Amidst a riot of hilarious dates with would-be husbands, Shani has to cope with a minor Machiavelli at work, a house that is literally falling down around her ears, and a neurotic mother with serious cultural baggage. Worst of all, her best friend, who seems to have it all, is sliding into depression, and Shani seems powerless to help. Through a flurry of curry, cricket, sarees, and sumptuous ceremonies, Shani comes to learn that love comes in many disguises - and degrees of satisfaction - and that life is a one-shot game, even if you do believe in reincarnation.

I write at night to meet deadlines and don't get enough sleep, so I don't lose sleep for many books.
The Wedding Season is one book I sacrificed sleep for, unable to put it down in the wee small hours.

It's an enticing blend of multicultural chick lit/women's fiction/romance.

Shani is a 32 yo single Sri Lankan woman living in Melbourne.
She has loyal friends, an interfering mother and boy troubles.

I laughed out loud in several parts of the book, and loved recognising all the landmarks in my home city.

Have to admit, I was shocked when the book took a serious twist but even then I loved how the author developed the characters' relationships.

A really satisfying read, one I recommend.

What are you reading this weekend?

Cover reveal: FALLING FOR FLYNN

So, what do you think of my hot Aussie soldier Flynn?

I LOVE this cover!!!

FALLING FOR FLYNN releases October 8th from Crimson Romance.

It's a softer, more emotional novel than my usual 'fun, flirty' brand. Can't wait to hear what readers think!

Here's a blurb:

Flynn Logan is a dedicated, driven soldier and the Army is his life. Until he returns home to Melbourne and discovers he has another life he knew nothing about.

Lori Ballantine has only ever loved one man and he chose the army over her. Now Flynn is back, can she let him into her life? And that of the son they share together? The son she kept secret from Flynn for the last six years?

As Flynn and Lori come to terms with co-parenting, Flynn needs to make some tough decisions: about his past, his future and his role in Lori and Adam’s lives.
Being a father may just prove to be the toughest assignment he’s ever had!

You can pre-order on Amazon

NEW RELEASE: Crazy Love

After traditionally publishing 35 novels, I've just released my first indie-pubbed novel!

CRAZY LOVE, an 85000 word contemporary romance, is fun, flirty and a little...crazy!

Here's the blurb:

All's fair in love...and matchmaking!

Sierra Kent doesn’t do love.
While she embraces the quaintness of her home town Love and delights in matchmaking her clients through her Internet dating agency Love Byte, she doesn’t trust her intuition when it comes to the one emotion that has repeatedly let her down.

City-slick Marc Fairley, CEO of LA's premier acquisition company, doesn’t have time for Love.
From the minute he enters the kitschy town he can’t wait to hotfoot back to LA with his deranged mother in tow.
Instead, he gets roped into the town's Love Fest hoopla, investigates the shady farmer his mom is engaged to, berates his butler for a mad crush on a brash Aussie waitress, and finds himself falling for the brazen red-head who continually baits him.
His life couldn't get any crazier.
Until he discovers in exacting revenge on his father and achieving his lifelong goals, he may lose the one thing he values most...

Can Sierra and Marc create enough sparks to send Love up in flames?
And prove that winning isn’t everything in the love stakes, it’s how you play the game.

You can buy it here right now!

NEW RELEASE: Marrying the Enemy

I'm not ashamed to admit MARRING THE ENEMY is my favourite Harlequin I've written (out of 32!)

It's a marriage of convenience story...where the heroine proposes to the hero!

Here's the blurb:

Jewelry designer and heiress Ruby Seaborn will do anything to save her family's company from financial ruin. And she means anything.

Including proposing a strictly business marriage to diamond-mine magnate Jax Maroney—the only man able to restore the Seaborn jewelry empire to its former glory!

She needs his money; he needs her socialite credentials—it's a win-win solution.

And if they indulge in certain…fringe benefits of their marriage along the way, that's fine. Because luckily Ruby's heart is as unbreakable as the precious gems she works with…isn't it?

ROMANTIC TIMES MAGAZINE gave it 4 1/2 stars! "This spirited and poignant romance features a vulnerable alpha hero who is perfectly matched with his sassy heroine."

Heather, over to you!

Reality TV: Why I Love It!

I’m a lover of reality TV. Always have been and probably always will be. I know there are some people out there who hate reality TV, but I think they’re crazy. Just kidding. I think you’re all wonderful! But I’ll never understand the appeal of medical or cop dramas. It’s just not my thing. It’s too dark for my evening viewing pleasure. So why do I like reality TV?

1. The drama! Oh my goodness. These contestants make drama in all shapes, sizes and forms and on every single episode. You never know what you’re going to see, but it’s always entertaining!

2. It’s lighthearted! I don’t have to worry about watching something dark and disturbing right before bed if I turn on a reality show. About as deep and dark as it gets is if an alliance member gets caught fraternizing with the opposition.

3. People watching! I’m one of those people who are always watching the way people act or talk or dress or whatever. It’s not that I’m judging them in any way. I could really care less how any one likes to be/do. But I’m always gathering little bits of information to use as reference later on. Watching a reality show is like getting to eavesdrop on people from the comfort of my own couch.

4. For the romance! I know, you’re thinking I’m talking about shows like Bachelor/Bachelorette, and I am! But I’m also talking about almost every other kind of reality TV show too. So many of them put the contestants into such close quarters for the duration of the show that they are bound to get a little… naughty… while they’re there. I mean really, how can you put a bunch of hunky men and beautiful women together into the same living environment and not expect them to hook up. It’s inevitable. And I love to see if any of those showmances will actually last because once in a while they do!

5. For the research, of course! My love for reality TV led to writing a new series of reality TV romances. Now instead of only watching the show for enjoyment, I’m also watching for research purposes… or at least that’s what I tell my husband! I take note of the contestants, the situations they put themselves in, the challenges they have to compete in and the twists and turns each show takes over the course of a season. And all just so my reality TV romances will feel authentic to my readers. It’s a tough job, but I do it for my readers… ;)

What’s your favorite reason to watch reality TV?

Happy reality TV viewing… and reading!

FALLING FOR YOU is the first in my reality TV series and is now available at Amazon, B&N and iTunes.

Newly single Cassidy Quinn is thrilled to be a contestant on the new reality dating show The One. But her excitement turns to horror when the gorgeous bachelor turns out to be her ex-boyfriend. Seeing Brad again makes Cassidy realize she might not be as “over him” as she thought—and then she meets hunky cameraman Evan Burke.
After watching his brother lose his wife in a tragic accident, Evan vows never to fall in love. But following Cassidy around as her personal cameraman makes him question his decision, and resisting her gets harder with every sunbathing, bikini-wearing day.
Cassidy and Evan begin a forbidden affair while her ex-boyfriend tries to win her heart back one groping, awkward moment at a time. If Cassidy can manage to stop falling off horses (literally), stop falling onto her ex-boyfriend, the bachelor (yes, literally), and stop falling in love with backstage playboy Evan, she might still make it through the show without becoming a tabloid sensation.
But soon Cassidy must choose between the ex who broke her heart and the cameraman who might never love her back. For Cassidy, this reality show just got real.
