Don't be an ostrich

October is Breast Cancer month in Australia.

Rather timely considering what I've just been through.

Yes, I had a rough week, with an odd, tender spot in right breast. As soon as I felt it, I worried for a few days before making a doctor's appointment. She immediately sent me for an ultrasound, which I had on the weekend.

The young guy who did it asked me how often I did breast checks, then tried to scare me by mentioning I was having the ultrasound to check for cancer.
Well duh!

Though he hummed and ahhed a bit, I got the general gist that everything was okay. Have no idea what the problem is, but it isn't anything 'nasty.'

I walked out numb, relieved, but numb. Made me think of all those women who aren't so lucky.

I, for one, will be more vigilant in checking from now on.

So ladies, please, please do regular breast checks. Better to catch something early.

What a relief for you, Nicola.
In your place, I think I might have whacked the young fellow over the head, he would certainly have been at the receiving end of one of my looks (quite lethal, I'm told).

Good on you for spreading the better safe than sorry message.

Did your Dr mention the possibility of a stress related cause? You've had a rough ride of it, worry does pile up...

Take care

LOL Veronica, I think I was too nervous to give him a 'look'!

Haven't seen doc yet but who knows? Stress can affect health.
I need a holiday!!!

Glad all was ok, I had a cyst removed a few years back (happily totally benign) but the wait for them to check it was horrendous.

You soooo need a holiday :-)

What a relief, Nic -- you've been through a lot recently and I'm glad this was a good result for you.

Adding my 2 cents worth to encourage every woman to check to lumps and bumps and not miss those vital regular mammogram tests.

Definitely hoping for no more doc visits/scans/CT scans/ultrasounds/XRs this year!
